Mr. Andrew Francis "Andy" Chatham of Broaddus, Texas, passed away Wednesday, December 28, 2022, at his residence at the age of 81 years, 10 months, 2 days.
Mr. Chatham was born February 26, 1941, in Buggscuffe, Texas, to parents James Harvey and Anna Pearl Chatham and had lived in Broaddus for more than 40 years.
A self-made man, Andy had been "on his own" since the age of 12 and enlisted in the U.S. Navy during his early 20s. Upon his discharge from the military, he began his career in road construction. After several years in this field, he later worked and finished his career as an over the road long haul truck driver.
He enjoyed many hobbies during his lifetime. These included mechanic working, wood working, fishing, and motorcycle riding. He was a man's man and had a very narrow way of thinking in life. He tried teaching his children and grandchildren how to be good, decent people. He was a hard man to love but he loved his family even harder.
His survivors include daughters, Crystal Phillips of Broaddus, Tammy Uherek of San Augustine, Sondra Payne of San Augustine, and Sue Scaife of Alabama; sons, Kevin Chatham of Lufkin and Richard Nix of Hudson; son-in-law, John Phillips of Broaddus; grandchildren, Justin Nix of Bronson, Heather Nix of Milam, Andrew Chatham of Carthage, Skye Nix of Broaddus, Dustin Chatham of Lufkin, Dakota Uherek of Calhoun, Louisiana, Lily Rogers, William Rogers, and Nicholas Rogers, all of Bronson, David Rogers of Kountze, and Meagan Harvey of Lufkin; and 20+ great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Chatham, on May 16, 2022; his parents, J.H. and Pearl Chatham; siblings, Bonnie, Barbara, and Eddie; and a niece, Debra Roberts.
A Celebration of Life funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 31, 2022, at Trinity Baptist Church, located at 310 FM 83 East in Broaddus, with Pastor Don Lofton officiating.
Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, December 31, 2022, at the church.
Pallbearers: James K. Chatham, Justin Nix, Andrew Chatham, Nicholas Rogers, Paul Rogers, and William Rogers. Honorary pallbearers: John Phillips and Dakota Uherek.
