Barbara Ann Whitaker Holloway of Etoile, Texas, was called to her heavenly home on April 16, 2025, in Lufkin, Texas. She was born September 1, 1945, at Fort Crockett on Galveston Island, Texas, to Oscar William Whitaker and Clara Etta Pyle. She was raised in Apple Springs, Texas, by her great-grandparents, Malrey and Nora Pyle, where she attended the Baptist church and graduated high school.
Visitation will be held Monday, April 21, 2025, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Wyman Roberts Funeral Home, 316 W. Columbia in San Augustine, Texas.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 22, 2025, at Wyman Roberts Funeral Home Chapel, followed by graveside services at Blue Springs Cemetery in Etoile, Texas.
She was a strict but fair mother and spoiling grandmother with a beautiful smile and a tender loving heart. She was an excellent cook and never knew how to cook for just two people. Her chicken and dumplings, old school venison and gravy, chocolate cake, and coconut cake were legendary. She loved her Dr Pepper and Coke. She had a work ethic second to none and in her later years, a passion for reading.
She is survived by her husband of 48 years, Elma D. "Bill" Holloway of Etoile, Texas; daughters, Rusti Allen (Micky Sr.) of Black Jack, Texas, Penny Whisenant (Bobby) of Etoile, Texas, Sherri Harrison of Nacogdoches, Texas, Lora Turner (Tom) of Etoile, Texas, Deanna Sheffield (Melvin) of Oakwood, Texas, and Robbie Jo Pinkston (Michael Sr.) of Black Jack, Texas; son, Billy Holloway of Nacogdoches, Texas; sisters, Linda Whisenant of Etoile, Texas, Sue Pillows of Lufkin, Texas, Brenda Whitton of Etoile, Texas, Gwenda Britt (Roy) of Etoile, Texas, Jean Chambers of Chireno, Texas, Julia Henson (Kent) of Lufkin, Texas, and Rhonda Griffin of Woden, Texas; brother, Elvin Cook of Nacogdoches, Texas; sister-in-law, Sherron Cook of Lufkin, Texas; and her aunt, Stella Anzo Richardson (Kent) of Lufkin, Texas. She is survived by 16 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and grandparents; a son, Joe Hooper; brother, Robert Cook; son-in-law, Tim Dudley; brothers-in-law, Gerald Whisenant, Herman Pillows, Billy Whitton, Scotlin Chambers, Wayne Griffin; grandson, Tommy Allen; and great-granddaughter, Alauna Martin.
Special thanks goes to the nurses and caregivers of Hospice in the Pines and Parkwood in the Pines Nursing Home for their love and care for our mother. We could not have asked for better.
