Bonnie Ruth (Bryan) McGee was born February 23, 1941, in San Augustine County, Texas, to William Jennings Bryan (Durb) and Dovie Stringer. She entered into rest on May 24, 2024, in the comfort of her home surrounded by her loved ones. Thus, she obtained the age of 83 years, 3 months, and 1 day.
Bonnie, a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and beloved community member, passed away peacefully, finding eternal rest in the arms of The Lord. Bonnie's life was a testament to hard work, unwavering love, and a spirited nature that touched everyone she met.
Born with a determination and work ethic that saw her through numerous careers, Bonnie's professional journey included significant roles at the Social Security Administration, as an agent for Farmers Insurance, and ultimately retiring from the United States Postal Service as a rural carrier in 2006. Her dedication and commitment were evident in every position she held.
On July 2, 1987, Bonnie married the love of her life, J.T. McGee. Together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, and a shared passion for gardening. Their multiple gardens were a testament to their teamwork and Bonnie's nurturing spirit. A faithful member of Trinity Baptist Church in Broaddus, Texas, Bonnie's faith was a cornerstone of her life, providing her with strength and solace through both joyful and challenging times.
Bonnie's greatest joy came from her role as a mother and "Memaw." She was an incredible mother, always putting her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren first. Her kitchen was a place of warmth and love, where she delighted in cooking family favorites like cornbread dressing, chicken and dumplings, fried chicken, and mashed potatoes and indulging her grandchildren with their beloved desserts like Old Man's Cake and peanut butter balls.
Bonnie could often be found in her favorite booth at the Dairy Mart, enjoying coffee and her cherished butter pecan ice cream. Her presence there was a daily reminder of her vibrant spirit and her ability to find joy in everyday moments.
Bonnie's legacy of love, strength, and feistiness will forever be cherished by her family and friends. She leaves behind a rich tapestry of memories that will continue to inspire and bring comfort to all who were fortunate enough to know her.
Bonnie faced life's challenges with strength and resilience, always emerging with grace and an unwavering spirit. While she has left a void in the hearts of those who loved her, there is comfort in knowing she is at peace, reunited with her little girl, and embraced by The Lord.
She is survived by her son, Esmon Dewitt Rushing Jr. (J.R.) of Broaddus, Texas; her grandchildren, Jordan Cheyenne Holland and husband Wesley of Henderson, Texas, Jackson Colten Russell of Central Heights, Texas, and Addison Makayla Rodgers of Broaddus, Texas; her great-grandchildren, Johnny Peyton Russell, Harper Ann Russell, and Russell Wayne Holland; brother, Odis Bryan and wife Gail of Alto, Texas; sisters, Sylvia Havard and husband Jackie of Lufkin, Texas, Linda Evans of Vidor, Texas, Marsha Witcher and husband Ronald of Longview, Texas, and Kathy Sutton of Tomball, Texas; aunt, Eunice Letney of Lufkin, Texas; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
