Burnice Blackstock passed away October 9, 2024 in San Augustine, Texas, three weeks shy of his 94th birthday. He had lived much of his life in Lufkin where he and his wife, Rosemary, owned Blackstock's, a retail clothing store. After retiring, they returned to San Augustine where they had grown up.
He was born in Shelby county November 3, 1930, the youngest of 13 children. His family moved to the Fords Corner Community where he attended Rosevine Elementary and later San Augustine schools. He served his country in the Korean War. He married Rosemary Mathews on September 1, 1954. They were married 70 years. They first lived in Beaumont and later moved to Lufkin where he initially worked for his father-in-law JP Mathews at the Mathews Miller dry goods store. In 1970, he and his wife opened Blackstock's in the Angelina Mall.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter Beth Brown (Bob) and was known as "Bunny" to his grandsons Pearson Brown (Anna) of Athens, Georgia and Keaton Brown of Houston.
He was preceded in death by his daughter Ann Blackstock and by his parents William and Nannie Payne Blackstock, brothers Alvin and Calvin, Jimmy, Cleron, Clifton and Clyde, and sisters Lucille Smith, Dollie Mae Lout, Adele Smith and Odell Wagstaff, Etah Donahoe and Rena Jean Mills.
Memorials may be made to the charity of your choice.
A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, October 13, 2024, at Thomas Cemetery.
