Calvin Capps, age 79, left this earth to be with the Lord, December 11, 2024. He was born August 16, 1945, to Alvin and Iola Capps. He grew up in Channelview, Texas. Out of high school, he went into the Airforce and served four years. Upon completing his service, he hired on at Lyondell Petro Chemical Plant, where he worked for 35 years.
He married Deleata (Dee Dee) Flowers on August 6, 1965. They had 3 blessed children that they love very much – Dorrie, Wade and Wes. They were married for 59 years. They were best friends. They loved with deep passion and fought (and made up) with passion.
Calvin had a true passion for being in the woods and on the lake. He loved taking all of his family fishing (it didn’t matter what kind of fish). One of the things that made Calvin smile bigger than anything, was to be with his son or one of his grandsons when they killed a deer. He would get so excited for them. He was their biggest fan.
Calvin knew his Lord and Savior. He was the hands and feet of Jesus every day of his life. He was a Deacon at the First Baptist Church of Broaddus. Calvin never saw the bad in people and he helped every person he could.
Calvin’s legacy is showing his children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews the true meaning of love. He never had to tell you where he stood with Christ, he let his actions tell his story of a Christ like journey.
Those left to Cherish his memory are Wife Deleata (Dee Dee); Daughter Dorrie Lang and her husband Robert; Son Wes Capps and his wife Jenny; Grandchildren Ashley Gutierrez and her husband Jorge, Caleb Lang and his wife Jessie, Wade Capps, Alex Capps; Great Grandchild Declan Lang; Brothers and Sisters Coy and Joyce Capps, Russell and Clara Fite, Cindy Capps, Robert and Jolene Flowers
2 Samuel 3:38 And the king said unto his servants, Know ye not that there is a prince and a great man fallen this day…
What makes a great man? The first and foremost thing would be his relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ. Secondly, to be a great man he will love others because Jesus first loved him. Another quality of a great man is that he does not think too highly of himself, he will be humble in what he does. Another quality of a great man is that he will strive to help others to become great men, not for the praise of men, but to give honor and glory to God, and His Son Jesus Christ. A great man will be generous not thinking of him self but, of others. There are many other qualities of a great man but, we would run out of paper listing them all. But we can say our family leader Calvin met all these qualities. He loved Jesus, his fellowman, he was humble, always trying to encourage others and generous to a fault.
