Charles Gene Lindsey, age 83, of San Augustine, TX, was born in Jasper, TX on October 3, 1941. He went home to be with the Lord on August 24, 2025, just in time to reunite with his beloved wife, Martha, on her birthday.
Charles grew up in the small sawmill town of Pineland, TX, surrounded by a large extended family of aunts, uncles, and cousins. It was there he met the love of his life, Martha Milstead Lindsey, at the Dairy Bar. Together, they built a home filled with laughter, prayer, and love—a shining example of true devotion to one another for 60 years.
Charles was a skilled carpenter, crafting many of the homes in the area. He took great pride in his trade, learning the craft from previous generations, and was passionate about passing it on to his children and grandchildren.
A lifelong Dodgers fan, Charles also had a deep love for baseball, a passion that he passed down through generations. He was devoted to attending every sporting event for his children and grandchildren, always their biggest fan, following them wherever they played. Charles valued punctuality and remained active in his family’s lives well into his 80s. His fridge was always stocked with Dr. Peppers, and the counter was lined with Pecan Sandies and Oreos for his grandchildren to enjoy whenever they stopped by for a visit. A late-night snack always included his favorite candy and peanuts while watching a ballgame or western show—he was an avid Gunsmoke fan.
He and Martha shared a love for treasure hunting, attending auctions, estate sales, and shopping at Canton Trade Days every month. Together, they proudly collected unique items, especially their prized Texas Centennial collection. Their love for travel was equally strong, and they were always on the lookout for new Texas Centennial markers to discover across this state.
Charles was a cherished member of the San Augustine County Cowboy Church, where he loved attending services with his family. He leaves behind an incredible legacy that will live on in the hearts of his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
Charles is survived by his children: Patricia and Curtis Jacks of San Augustine, Robert and Sherry Lindsey of Huntington, Charlotte and Chris Gomlicker of Scott, AR, and Brad and Tanya Lindsey of Lufkin, TX. He is also survived by his sister Carolyn Bennet of Jasper; and brothers Coleman and Kathy Lindsey and Claude Lindsey, both of Pineland, TX. He is also survived by his brother-in-law Tom and Reba Milstead of Nacogdoches, TX.
Charles’ grandchildren include: Lindsey and John Welch and Nicholas Jacks of San Augustine, TX; Marlee Lindsey of Houston, Matt, and Anna Lindsey of Porter, TX; Christopher Gomlicker and Mariah Quenzer of Longmont, CO; Case Gomlicker of Scott, AR; Hailey Lindsey of Portland, OR; and Austin Lindsey and Aubrey Lindsey of Lufkin, TX. His great-grandchildren include: Hannah, Bri, Dustin, Olivia, Addie, Brighton, Brylee, Maddy, Bodhi, and Audrey.
