Charlie Jones

Charlie Jones, 64, a longtime San Augustine area resident, passed away Tuesday, August 12, 2025, at Kennedy Health Care Center in Lufkin, Texas.

Charles Douglas Jones was born February 14, 1961, to parents Betty Jean (Mitchell) and Sarge Jones and grew up in the Denning area of San Augustine County. He was a 1979 graduate of San Augustine High School.

After high school, Charlie began working in the oilfield as a roughneck. He was also a talented carpenter and licensed electrician. Favorite pastimes of Charlie included dancing and outdoor activities, such as hunting and fishing. He cherished spending time with friends.

His survivors include a son, Chad Jones; brothers, Gerald Amos Hanzel Jr. and Tracy Lee Hanzel; and a host of nieces and nephews, along with several friends.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Betty Jean Hanzel; father, Sarge Jones; and a brother, Greg Jones.

A graveside service is planned for 4:00 p.m. Saturday, August 16, 2025, at Warr Family Cemetery in San Augustine County, Texas.
