David L. Smith Obituary

David L. Smith, age 44, passed away Wednesday, June 17, 2026, in Nacogdoches County, Texas.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday, June 22, 2026, at Wyman Roberts Funeral Home, located at 316 W. Columbia Street in San Augustine.

Funeral services are set for 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 23, 2026, at San Augustine's First Baptist Church, located at 502 E. Columbia Street, with Bro. Mike Belgard officiating. Committal service and interment will follow at Black Jack Cemetery, located on County Road 350 off FM 95 in Nacogdoches County. Lunch will be served at Chireno Baptist Church.

David was born with a servant’s heart and spent his life caring for others. A 1999 graduate of San Augustine High School, he was known for his kindness, generosity, quick wit, and ability to make those around him smile. Whether he was caring for family, friends, patients, or members of his community, David always put others first.

David and the love of his life, Jennifer Smith, were high school sweethearts and were united in marriage on December 20, 2003. Together they built a loving home and raised two children who were the pride and joy of his life. David was a devoted husband and father whose greatest happiness came from spending time with his family.

Committed to lifelong learning and professional excellence, David earned his Master's Degree in 2013 and his Doctorate Degree in 2016. He dedicated his career to helping and caring for others, touching countless lives through his compassion and commitment to his patients.

David was also deeply devoted to his community and public education. He faithfully served on the Chireno ISD School Board for six years, including terms as president and, most recently, secretary. He approached every decision with the best interests of the students, faculty, and district at heart, earning the respect and admiration of those who served alongside him.

Those who knew David will remember his joyful spirit, his caring nature, and his gift for making others laugh even during difficult times. He was the kind of person who would always show up when needed, offer a helping hand, and leave everyone feeling a little better than before.

David is survived by his loving wife, Jennifer Smith of Chireno; daughter, Hannah Smith of Chireno; son, Colton Smith of Chireno; mother and stepfather, Ann and Ronnie Ham; brother, Scott Smith and family; stepbrother, Ryan Ham and family; parents-in-law, Derrell and Helen Gardner; brother-in-law, DeWayne Gardner; and a host of beloved relatives and cherished friends.

David was preceded in death by his father, Eddie Smith.

David's legacy of love, service, compassion, and dedication to others will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew him. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
