Charles Wayne Goodwin, a deputy for San Augustine County Sheriff's Office, passed away suddenly on Tuesday, August 20, 2024, in San Augustine County, Texas, at the age of 53.
Deputy Goodwin was born March 18, 1971, in Lufkin, Angelina County, to parents Susan (Gray) and Dr. W.H. Goodwin. He had been a longtime resident of the San Augustine area. He was faithful in his duties as a servant of the public for 21 years. For the past almost 12 years, he was a deputy in San Augustine County Sheriff's Department. Prior to that, he had served with in Cherokee County with the Rusk Police Department and Jacksonville Police Department. Charles showed compassion and professionalism which led to his success as well respected law officer in East Texas.
His survivors include his father, Dr. W. H. Goodwin of San Augustine; a brother, Eric Goodwin and wife Leigh Ann of Kaneohe, Hawaii; his son, Chase Goodwin and Elisabeth of Tyler; and numerous other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be held Saturday, August 31, 2024, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Wyman Roberts Funeral Home, located at 316 W. Columbia St. in San Augustine.
Funeral services are set for 2:00 p.m. Sunday, September 1, 2024, at the Wyman Roberts Memorial Chapel. Committal service and interment will follow at Liberty Hill Memorial Garden.
