Mr. Derek James Burns, 26, of Rusk passed away Thursday, July 25, 2024, in Cherokee County.
He was born April 16, 1998, in Nacogdoches and had deep family ties in San Augustine County. Derek worked at Allen's Tire Shop and had a great passion for fishing and hunting of all types and loved riding horses and mules.
Derek had a wonderful compassionate side for everyone. He loved his family and spent countless hours with them. His compassion also came through as he was always ready to offer a helping hand to anyone in need, whether family, friend, stranger.
His survivors include his wife, Krissy Burns, and their soon to be arriving son, Ryder; along with his father, J.D. Burns and wife Tisha of San Augustine; mother, April Dixson of Louisiana; sisters, Megan Billingsly and husband Juan of Louisiana and Kinley Burns of San Augustine; a step-sister, Jaysa Bennefield and husband Coy of San Augustine; parents-in-law, Samuel and Holly Bell of Rusk; aunts, Renee Wall of San Augustine and Sissy Taylor of Etoile; grandparents-in-law, John and Mattie Bell and Richard and Pamela Davis, all of Rusk; and a host of other extended family members.
He was preceded in death his grandparents, James and Judy Burns; a step-brother, James Daylon Witter; and an uncle, Jerry "Big Jerry" Wall; along with other family and friends.
Visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 30, 2024, at Wyman Roberts Funeral Home, located at 316 W. Columbia Street in San Augustine.
Funeral services are set for 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 30, 2024, at the Wyman Roberts Memorial Chapel with Bro. Robert Byley Jr. officiating. Committal service and interment will follow at Dickerson Cemetery, located on County Road 4255 in San Augustine County.
Pallbearers: William Taylor, Wesley Bell, Samuel Bell Jr., R.B. Stowe, Jacob Wall, Byron Johnson, Juan Billingsly, and Kwan Adams. Honorary pallbearers: Wesley Wall and Shawn Stowe.
