Elver "Dollie" Tillery

Mrs. Elver "Dollie" Tillery, age 95, of San Augustine County, Texas, passed away Wednesday, August 6, 2025, at Colonial Pines Health Care Center.

"Dollie" was born February 11, 1930, in San Augustine County to parents R.J. and Bessie (Smith) Shelton. She had lived in Woden, Texas, for years before relocating to San Augustine County's New Hope community following the death of her husband in 2007. While living in Woden, she began working for area residents with homecare. Dollie later began working at Flournoy's Florist in Lufkin, finding her niche as a designer. She also faithfully worked around the homeplace, especially tending cows and chickens.

She was a faithful member of the Pentecostal church, most recently New Hope Church. Dollie was an accordion player. She and her husband were faithful and active serving a jail ministry several years with the Nacogdoches County Jail and other area facilities.

Her survivors include two nieces, Dorthy Hawthorne of Diboll, Texas, and Shirley Byley and husband Harold of San Augustine County, Texas; a nephew, Neal John Shelton of Lovelady, Texas; great-niece, Chaundra DuBose; great-great-nephews, Santana Hernandez, Tre Hernandez, Travis Hawthorne, and Wesley Hawthorne; great-great-nieces, Meagan Chandler, Lauren Veliz, and Katie Lowe; great-great-great nephews, Dean, Dayton, Dax, Jaydon, and J.D.; and great-great-great nieces, Jessie, Jacey, and Mia.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Morris Guinn Tillery; parents, R.J. and Bessie Shelton; brothers, John Earl Shelton and Neal J. Shelton; a sister, Wilma Worry; a nephew-in-law, James "Tim" Hawthorne; and a great-nephew, Wesley Tyrone Hawthorne.

Visitation will be held from 3:00 to 4:00 p.m. Saturday, August 9, 2025, at Wyman Roberts Funeral Home, located at 316 W. Columbia Street in San Augustine, Texas.

Funeral services will be held at 4:00 p.m. Saturday, August 9, 2025, at the Wyman Roberts Memorial Chapel with Bro. Preston "Cookie" Fitzgerald officiating. Committal service and interment will follow at Shiloh Cemetery, located on County Road 220.

Pallbearers: Fran Fitzgerald, Santana Hernandez, Tre Hernandez, Jeremy Chandler, Dayton Chandler, and Dan DuBose. Honorary pallbearers: Harold Byley, Chaundra Hawthorne, Meagan Chandler, Lauren Veliz, and Katie Lowe.
