Herman McDaniel

Mr. Herman McDaniel, age 79, of Conroe, Texas, passed away Sunday, January 4, 2026, at his residence.

Herman was born September 26, 1946, in San Augustine County, Texas, to parents Thelma (McKey) and Neal Elarce McDaniel and had lived in the Conroe area for several years. For a big part of his life, he worked as a roofing and building contractor, as well a cross country trucker, and operated a shrimp boat. He enjoyed wine making. McDaniel could be described as one of the best outdoorsman with a great love for hunting and fishing. He was like a human compass, the way he could naturally navigate through the woods. He had a passion for the old west--with many hours of pleasure reading the novels and watching the westerns on TV. He also enjoyed traveling.

His survivors include his wife, Madai McDaniel of Conroe; daughter, Wanda Kay Gaido and Richard of Conroe, Johnny Ray McDaniel and Jessica of Conroe, James Smith and Jenna of Alabama, and Mark McDaniel of Conroe; sisters, Millie Cassidy and husband Paul of Hemphill, Nancy Kuzma and husband Tim of Florida, and Judy Jackowicz and husband Lee of Florida; brothers, David McDaniel and wife Brenda of Bronson, and Doug McDaniel and wife Kathy of Bronson; grandchildren, Erica League, Windy Logan, Courtney Geist, Scott McDaniel, Dwayne McDaniel, Cory Mitchell League, Alayna McDaniel, and Steel Smith; and 15 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Thelma and Neal Elarce McDaniel; brothers, Thurman McDaniel, Albert McDaniel, and D.E. McDaniel; and sisters, Dessie McDaniel and Eunice Jacks.

Visitation will be held from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. Sunday, January 11, 2026, at Wyman Roberts Funeral Home, located at 316 W. Columbia Street in San Augustine, Texas.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, January 11, 2026, at the Wyman Roberts Memorial Chapel with Bro. Floyd Wright officiating. Interment will follow at Chinquapin Cemetery in San Augustine County.
