James Delton Sowell

Mr. James Delton Sowell, age 79, of San Augustine County, Texas, passed away Friday, December 13, 2024, at his residence.

Born June 24, 1945, to parents James Kelly Sowell and Frances Inez (Deason) Sowell, he was a native and lifelong resident of the San Augustine area. He was a member of Attoyac Baptist Church and worked many years as a logger. Mr. Sowell served his country and was a proud veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps. 

His survivors include his wife of 52 years, Carolyn Jane Tarver Sowell of San Augustine, Texas; his children, Michael Sowell and wife Tiffany of Pineland, Texas, Veronica Sowell White and husband Kevin of Hemphill, Texas, James Thomas Sowell and wife Amanda of San Augustine, Texas, Kimberly Sowell Holloway and husband Cliff of San Augustine, Texas, and Kellie Sowell Anthony and husband Justin of Nacogdoches, Texas; brothers, Charles Ray Sowell and Carolyn of San Augustine, Texas, Glen Earl Sowell and Debra of Shelbyville, Texas, Bobby Wayne Sowell and Chuck of Dallas, Texas, and Robert Kelly Sowell of Center, Texas; sisters, Mary Frances Burks of San Augustine, Texas, Alice Faye Waggoner of Nacogdoches, Texas, Ruby Lynn Metcalf and Maurice of San Augustine, Texas, and Bronda Sue Blackmon of Henderson, Texas; grandchildren, Shelby Griffin, Makenzie Sowell, Kaitlyn Brice Holloway Reeves, Christine Clark, Karsyn Sowell, Saylor Grace Holloway, Garrett Sowell, Trace Sowell, Tenslee Anthony, and Harper Anthony; and great-grandchildren, Braxton White, Madilyn Griffin, Christopher Clark Jr., Cooper Clark, and Case Ray Reeves.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Damon Alec Holloway; great-grandson, Wesley Ryder Griffin; brothers, Johnny Michael Sowell and Donald Lee Sowell; and a sister, Barbra Gene Sowell.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, December 16, 2024, at Wyman Roberts Funeral Home's chapel with Bro. Ronnie Sowell and Bro. Don Lofton officiating. Interment will follow at the Sowell Cemetery.
