Mrs. Jeanette Mena, age 83, of Broaddus, Texas, passed away Friday, May 15, 2026, at her residence.
Mrs. Mena was born April 4, 1943, in Buna, Texas, to parents Lillian (Brown) and Warren G. McSwain. She was married to Lynn W. Mena on June 4, 1960, and they lived in the Houston area several years prior to moving to Broaddus following retirement.
Faith was an important part of her life. Jeanette had been a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church since moving to the area in 1997. While in the Houston area, she was a devoted part of the St. Ambrose Catholic Community, serving with the Altar Society and in many other ways.
After her children were in school, Jeanette attended nursing school, obtaining a BSN degree. She worked over 20 years as an RN with Memorial Hermann, primarily in labor and delivery.
Jeanette loved her family--supporting and caring for them in all ways possible. She enjoyed spending many hours with Lynn fishing.
Christmas season was such a special time to Jeanette. She adored the time with family, but also the spiritual celebration of the true meaning of Christmas.
Mrs. Mena also found great love and pleasure in gardening with Spring being a favorite time of the year. She took extreme pride in caring for the beautiful flowers in her lawn.
"Servant" is a great word to describe the life of Jeanette Mena. Love and care was abundant, whether it was her service to her church and faith, patients and families through her nursing career, and especially the care and attention to all of her family and loved ones.
Her survivors include her husband of near 66 years, Lynn W. Mena of Broaddus, Texas; a son, Samuel David Mena of Cypress, Texas; daughters, Sheila Lynne Duhon and husband Glenn of Colorado Springs, Colorado, and Kimberly Kaye Mena of Cypress, Texas; a sister, Edna Rae Carroll and husband Robert of Magnolia, Texas; a brother, Travis Lynn McSwain and his wife Donna of Cypress, Texas; sisters-in-law, Betty Sue McSwain, Lucille Jones, Jean Walker, and Margaret Walters; a brother-in-law, Ray Mena; grandchildren, Jonathan Mena and wife Kelli, Michael Porterfield and fiance Tracy Houghton, Joseph Mena, Amber Marstol and husband Tore, Jillian Mena, Damien Duhon and fiance Jackie Villanueva, and Lt. She was preceded in death by her parents, Lillian and Warren G. McSwain; and brothers, Warren Gene McSwain and Ronnie Clark McSwain.
