Laurie Mae Trammel Obituary

Mrs. Laurie Mae Trammel, age 102, of San Augustine, Texas, passed away Sunday, August 24, 2025, at Stone Creek Nursing Facility surrounded by family and friends.

Mrs. Trammel was born on May 23, 1923, in South Dakota to Katherine and Dean Harvey. She became a longterm resident of Texas and lived in San Augustine for more than two decades.

During World War II, Mrs. Trammel served as a Women's Ordinance Worker, where she received specialized training to operate a drill press and manufacture machine guns for the war effort. It was during this period that she met her husband, Johnnie Waid Trammel with whom she was married 45 years. Together, they raised three children.

Through a century of life, Mrs. Laurie Mae Trammel stood as the heart and foundation of her family. With gentle wisdom and unwavering compassion, she nurtured every generation, guiding them not only with words but with the quiet strength of her example.

Her home in San Augustine was more than a place—it was a sanctuary. Within its walls, laughter echoed, traditions thrived, and stories were passed down like heirlooms. It was where milestones were celebrated with joy, and where comfort was offered freely during life’s storms.

The same care she poured into her family extended beyond her front door. Inspired by a lifelong commitment to helping others, Mrs. Trammel pursued her nursing education at the age of 49—a testament to her resilience and purpose. She went on to dedicate many years to patient care, earning recognition as an exemplary caregiver and earning the respect of both her patients and professional peers. Her work in nursing was not just a career—it was a continuation of the compassion she had always lived by.

Mrs. Trammel embodied grace and strength. Her presence inspired those around her to live with kindness, to cherish one another, and to uphold the values she held dear. Her legacy lives on in the lives she touched, the lessons she taught, and the love she gave so freely.

She is survived by her children, Gary Waid Trammel and Sandra Mae Smith; grandchildren Brett Disiere, Mark Trammel and Kim Trammel, Scott Disiere and Jennifer Disiere, John Trammel and Meggin Trammel, Matthew Trammel and Dawn Trammel, Luke Trammel, Rachel Gardner and Dillon Gardner; nephews, James Schindler, Timothy Schindler and Jason Schindler and spouse; great-grandchildren Kathryne Malfa, Catherine Griffin and spouse, Lori Pennington and spouse, Christopher Malfa, Brandon Disiere and spouse, Andrew Spears, Caitlin Disiere, Dakota Spears, Wyatt Trammel and spouse, Emily Trammel, Kyle Trammel, Quincey Trammel and spouse, Taylann Trammel, Jonah Trammel, Maddison Trammel, Dillon Gardner II, Brooke Trammel, Dane Gardner, David Gardner, and Abel Trammel; and numerous great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Dean and Katherine Harvey; husband, Johnnie Waid Trammel; sister, Florence Dunham; daughter, Sharon Katherine Trammel; daughter-in-law, Melanie Trammel; niece, Janice Schindler; granddaughter, Shiela Kay Malfa; and granddaughter-in-law, Cheryl Disiere.
