Loucille Katherine “Cathy” McBride of Bronson, Texas, passed away peacefully in her sleep on March 28, 2026.
Cathy was born January 19, 1945, in Anchorage, Alaska, to Vera Tolav and William Louis Murphy of Leesville, Louisiana. She was the granddaughter of Margaret Tolav, an Athabaskan Native American, and Peter Tolav, a Russian immigrant. Her father later married Ruby Birdwell of San Augustine, Texas, whose family Cathy dearly loved.
After settling in Texas, the family lived in Vidor and often traveled to San Augustine, stopping in Bronson where Cathy met Jerry A. “Pete” McBride. They married in 1960 and built their home in Bronson, where they raised three sons: Jerry Jr., Todd, and Stephen.
Cathy created a loving, stable home while selling Avon and building lifelong friendships across Sabine and San Augustine Counties. In 1972, the family purchased a truck stop in Bronson, which she managed while Pete worked abroad. She balanced business, family life, and a small cattle operation alongside her sons.
In 1978, the family moved to Saudi Arabia, where Cathy became active in women’s clubs, played softball, and enjoyed weekly Mahjong with friends.
Cathy loved people and travel, but her greatest joy was her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She is survived by her son Jerry McBride of Crestview, Florida and preceded in death by her daughter-in-law and Jerry’s wife, Diana McBride; her son Todd McBride and his wife Dawn of Niceville, Florida, along with their son Trevor and his wife Haley, and their daughter Maeve; and daughter Courtney Coffman and her husband Jarred, and their daughter Valerie; and her youngest son, Stephen McBride, and his wife Tammy of Woodville, Texas, along with their children: Derek McBride of Pineland, Texas, and his children Cayson and Cutter, Katie McBride, and Gregory McBride and his wife Caitlynn, and their children Sterling, James and Sutton; and Lily, Eddie, and Eric.
Cathy will be remembered for her warmth, strength, and deep devotion to family and friends.
A Celebration of Life memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, April 11, 2026, at First Baptist Church in Bronson, located at 207 Cooper Street. Officiating will be Bro. Bobby Powell.
