Mr. Louie T. "Skeet" Des Champs III, age 66, of San Augustine, Texas, passed away Tuesday, September 14, 2021, at Nacogdoches Medical Center Hospital.
Born January 31, 1955, he was the son of Doris (Smith) and Louie T. Des Champs Jr. "Skeet" was a San Augustine native and 1973 graduate of San Augustine High School. He later graduated from the University of Texas in Austin and then received his law degree from South Texas Law School in Houston. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and First Baptist Church.
Skeet held a master peace officer's license and had worked as a deputy sheriff for Harris County Sheriff's Office in Houston and also served as a reserve officer in San Augustine County. After completing law school, Skeet was a practicing attorney in private practice as well as service as County Attorney in Llano County, Texas, and the Texas Attorney General's office (at one time leading an AG's East Texas field office in Nacogdoches).
His survivors include his brothers, Joe Des Champs of Muscle Shoals, Alabama, and Kevin Gratehouse of San Augustine, Texas; sisters, Karla Gratehouse of Bellville, Texas, and Mary Martha Gratehouse of Sarasota, Florida; in addition to a number of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his father, Louie T. Des Champs Jr., and his mother, Doris Smith Des Champs.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Monday, September 27, 2021, at Wyman Roberts Funeral Home, located at 316 W. Columbia Street in San Augustine, Texas.
Funeral services are set for 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, September 28, 2021, at the Wyman Roberts Funeral Home chapel. Interment will follow at Liberty Hill Cemetery, located on Hwy. 147 North.
Pallbearers: Robert Cartwright, Kevin Windham, Steve Winfield, Jeff Cox, Joey Haley, Bob Ozee, Sheldon Hardy, and Steven Shires. Honorary pallbearer: David Bryan.
