Marguarite Jean "Peggy" Whitton was born March 21, 1936, in Plymouth, New Hampshire, to parents William Wesley Elliott and Louise Katherine (Fosie) Elliott. She passed away Sunday, July 19, 2026, at home in San Augustine, Texas.
She married Abbie Earl "Jake" Whitton, on November 26, 1955, in Kennewick, Washington.
She is survived by a son, William King Whitton and his wife, Kim Sutherland Whitton; grandson, William Scott Whitton and wife Brittany, and granddaughter Catherine Elizabeth Whitton, and their mother, Rebecca Wood Whitton; and nephews, Forest Hinkson, Roy Hinkson, Robert Elliott, and John Elliott.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, A.E. "Jake" Whitton; son, Chuck Whitton; sisters, Betty and Stella; and a brother, Billy.
Being a schoolteacher, she considered all of her many students throughout the years as "her children."
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 22, 2026, at Liberty Hill Memorial Garden, located on Highway 147 North in San Augustine, Texas, with Larry Jackson officiating.
Pallbearers: Greg Newton, Brent Murray, Johnny Elliott, Robert Elliott, Derek Hirsch, William Whitton, and Scott Whitton.
