Funeral services for Martha Gill Roberts Pay, 93, of San Augustine will be held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, December 28, 2025, at Wyman Roberts Funeral Home chapel in San Augustine, Texas, with Rev. Rick Russell and Ryan Pay officiating. Committal service and interment will follow at Liberty Hill Memorial Garden.
She passed away December 25, 2025, at Colonial Pines Health Care Center.
Martha was born approximately six miles out of town on Highway 21 East at the old Wall/Roberts House. She began her education at the old Mt. Nebo School, kindergarten through second grade and after moving around during the war years, returned to San Augustine in the seventh grade to join the Class of 1949. After many summer, night, and semesters of classes in library science and educational courses, she finished with a Masters in Education and Masters in Library Science together at San Jacinto College North Campus, University of Houston, and Sam Houston.
After 30 years of teaching and serving as librarian, she retired from Clear Lake High School, J. Frank Dobie, Jackson Jr. High, and San Jacinto College.
After retirement, she moved back to San Augustine and lived a mile from her birthplace. She was a longtime member of Memorial Presbyterian Church in San Augustine, as well as the First Presbyterian Church in Pasadena.
She is survived by a daughter, Pam McArthur of Pasadena; grandchildren, John Patterson of League City, Ryan Pay and Kathryn of San Augustine, and Jennifer Pina and Lorenzo of Pasadena; great-grandchildren, Amber, Wes and Heather, Will and Kylee, Jake, Landon, and Luke; great-great-granddaughter, Abigail; and a sister, Mary Louise Ehman of Cypress.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William Kirk "Bill" Pay; and her son, Mike Pay.
