Michael Patrick Sowell Obituary
Mr. Michael Patrick Sowell, age 61, a longtime resident of San Augustine County, Texas, passed away Saturday, January 3, 2026, at Autumn Leaves Health Care Center in Henderson, Texas.
A native East Texan, Patrick was born September 3, 1964, in San Augustine, Texas, to parents Jerry and Barbara (Goodwin) Sowell. He had lived in San Augustine County most of his life and worked in the timber industry—being the owner of Shelby Tree Service.
Music was an important part of Patrick’s life and he enjoyed hanging out and gathering with friends and family. He had a passion for automobiles and successfully completed full restoration of several cars. He also loved auto racing.
His survivors include his sons, Mike McCary of San Augustine County, Texas, and Michael Chaney Sowell and wife Amy of Nacogdoches, Texas; a daughter, Cherish Elise Lyman and husband Allen of Nacogdoches, Texas; grandchildren, Codi Lyman, Emma Sowell, Braxton Sowell, Carsyn Sowell, Aziraphale Ray McCary, Raelyn McCary, and Brandon McCary; and his siblings, Luanne Chandler, Jana Sowell, Jarrod Sowell, and Jennifer Sowell.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Barbara Goodwin Sowell; father, Jerry Sowell; brothers, Pruitt Sowell and Brad Sowell; and sister, Kay Sowell.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, January 8, 2026, at Attoyac Baptist Church, located at 600 FM 3316 in San Augustine County, Texas.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, January 9, 2026, at Attoyac Baptist Church with Bro. Mark Green officiating. Interment will follow at Attoyac Cemetery.
Pallbearers: Michael Chaney Sowell, Caleb Wilson, Jeremy Sowell, Billy Riggs, Michael Butler, and Allen Lyman. Honorary Pallbearers: Jarrod Sowell, Van Allen Sowell, and Brandon Barthol.
