Peggy Joyce (House) Sowell

Mrs. Peggy Joyce House Sowell, age 90, of Chireno, Texas, passed away Wednesday, January 7, 2026, in Nacogdoches, Texas.

Mrs. Sowell was born September 16, 1935, in Madison County to parents Vera (Simons) and Wendell House and had been a longtime resident of Chireno and Nacogdoches County. She worked several years in banking and also served as a volunteer at Nacogdoches Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Sowell was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene in Nacogdoches.

Her survivors include her son, Ronnie Sowell and wife Liz of Chireno; daughter, Jeannie McFarland and husband John of Nacogdoches; grandchildren, Jonathan Sowell of Chireno, Clint Sowell and wife Lacee of College Station, and Laura Newton and husband Stuart of Nacogdoches; and great-grandsons, Isaac Sowell, Nathan Sowell, Samuel Newton, and David Newton.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Elbert L. Sowell, in 2020.

Graveside services are set for 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 10, 2026, at Sowell Cemetery in San Augustine County with Bro David Baxley officiating. 

Pallbearers: Jonathan Sowell, Clint Sowell, Steve Sowell, Ricky Sowell, Stuart Newton, Tommy Goad and Wendall Goad. Honorary pallbearers: Mark Goad, Rodney Butler, and Randall Sowell.
