Peggy Jean Smith

Mrs. Peggy Jean Smith, age 73, of San Augustine, Texas, passed away Saturday, December 17, 2022, at her residence.

Mrs. Smith was born April 18, 1949, in LeFlore, Mississippi, to parents Raymond and Sue Howard. She was a longtime residentof the San Augustine area. A dedicated homemaker, Mrs. Smith was faithful caring for the needs of her family and a member of Rosevine Baptist Church.

Her survivors include her son, John Patrick Smith and wife Tina of San Augustine; daughter, Libby Jean Smith of Center; brothers, Claborne Allen and Glen Allen and wife Patsy, all of San Augustine; a sister, Robbie Burks and husband Roy of San Augustine; grandchildren, Larry G. Barton, Patrick Barton, Carlee Barton, and John A. Smith; and great-grandchildren, Christian Barton, Jason Barton, and Chase Barton.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John Henry Smith, on June 26, 2022; her parents, Susie and Raymond Howard; a granddaughter, Mindy Marie Smith; and son-in-law, Larry Barton.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 20, 2022, at Wyman Roberts Funeral Home, located at 316 W. Columbia Street in San Augustine.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 21, 2022, at the Wyman Roberts Memorial Chapel with Pastor Cliff Durham officiating. Interment will follow at Liberty Hill Memorial Garden, located on Highway 147 North in San Augustine.

Pallbearers will be Chad Allen, Randy Bennefield, Tommy Bennefield, Ernie Eddings, Ronald Smith, John Austin Smith, Brandon Higginbotham and Brandon Higg.
