Rosemary (Mathews) Blackstock

Mrs. Rosemary (Mathews) Blackstock, age 89, of San Augustine, Texas, passed away Monday, May 12, 2025, at CHI St. Luke's Medical Center in Lufkin, Texas, two weeks shy of her 90th birthday.

Rosemary was born May 24, 1935, in San Augustine County, Texas, to parents J.P. "Pete" and Mildred Lee (Rawson) Mathews. She had lived much of her life in Lufkin, Texas, where she and her husband, Burnice, owned Blackstock's, a retail clothing store. After retiring, they returned to San Augustine where they had grown up. 

She married Burnice Blackstock on September 1, 1954, and they were married 70 years. They first lived in Beaumont, Texas, and later moved to Angelina County, Texas. They worked with Rosemary's family with the J.P. Mathews and Mathews-Miller stores. In 1970, they opened Blackstock's in the Angelina Mall.

Her survivors include her daughter, Beth Blackstock Brown and husband Bob of Houston, Texas; grandsons, Pearson Brown and wife Anna of Athens, Georgia, and Keaton Brown of Houston, Texas; and a sister, Cherry Mathews Burnett of San Augustine, Texas.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Burnice Blackstock, on October 9, 2024; her parents, J.P. "Pete" and Mildred Mathews; and a daughter, Ann Blackstock.

Visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m. Friday, May 16, 2025, at the Church of Christ, located at 105 W. Market Street in San Augustine, Texas.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, May 16, 2025, at the Church of Christ, located at 105 W. Market Street in San Augustine, Texas. Committal service and interment will follow at Thomas Cemetery on County Road 274.

Pallbearers: Bryan Burnett, Bill Bay, Taylor Martin, Shane Mathews, Luke Mathews, Jake Mathews, Will Mathews, and Wilson Martin.
